Chanderpaul’s son in Georgetown U-15 team for Nalico/Nafico competition

The Georgetown selectors yesterday named a 14- member squad to participate in the Nalico/Nafico round-robin competition which starts on Thursday.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is included in the squad which will be led by Shaquille Williams with Sunil Rupee as the vice-captain. Batsman Mark Rigby, son for former Guyana U-19 player Anthony Rigby is also included. The Georgetown team will battle with West Coast Demerara in the first of their three round robin matches before taking on the East Coast and East Bank Demerara sides.

Chanderpaul cops top sports awards for 2008

As predicted world number one, Guyana and West Indies star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Guyana’s best middle distance athlete Alika Morgan were named Sportsman and Sportswoman, respectively, for 2008 when the National Sports Commission (NSC) panel sat down at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to come up with the most outstanding sportspersons for the past year.
