Veteran West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and squash player Nicolette Fernandes won the senior Sportsman and Woman-of-the-Year 2012 after a panel of judges assembled by the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Friday elected the top performers of the past year.

The current number two Test batsman in the world, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has signed for Derbyshire.
The West Indies left-hander has penned a two-year contract with the Club retaining first option for a third season. He is expected to be available for all three domestic competitions throughout the 2013 campaign
Everest honours Chanderpaul with ‘Honourary Membership for Life’
The bedrock of West Indies batting, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, was honoured on Friday evening with an ‘Honourary Membership for Life’ by the Everest Cricket Club (ECC).
This is the first time that the left-hander has been given such an honour, one which he, quite bizarrely, never received at the club which he honed his skills as a youngster- the Georgetown Cricket Club.
